On the back of the card: "The practice of Confirmation was known as the Sacrament of Initiation where a person was anointed with oil and the laying of hands upon those emerging from the baptismal waters for the impartation of the Holy Spirit. In the 3rd century it was difficult to distinguish Baptism from Confirmation. Scriptural justification for this dual act was found in Mark 1:10, where the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus as he came up from the Jordan; and in Acts 10:38, where Jesus is said to have been annointed with the Holy Spirit. From the 5th century onward it was known as confirmatio, and later in the Middle Ages it came to be regarded as a renewal of the Sacrament of Baptism."
