Our Lady of Fatima appeared to three children in Portugal in 1917. The children described her as wearing white and having the brightness of lightning, holding a rosary. She appeared to them multiple times over the next six months, serious and urging them to pray the rosary for peace. At her pre-announced, widely publicized final apparition, in October of that year, over 30,000 spectators witnessed the "Miracle of the Sun."
The full text of the prayer within this painting is:
"O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary,
You were pleased to appear to the children of Fatima
And reveal a glorious message.
We implore you, inspire in our hearts
A fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary.
By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask,
Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer."
"May it be done to me according to your word." Luke 1:38 is included at the base of the painting, below the children.
Sold un-matted, this piece does look wonderful with mats in a variety of colors.
Prints are 5x7, 8x10 or 11x14 with a narrow white border. It looks fantastic with a variety of mat colors but will fit unmatted in a standard frame.
The original watercolor was hand drawn by Monica Welch in Round Rock, TX.
